Recital Program Roughdraft / Spring 2023
SOLOS
1
Spring
Dancer: Christine Chen
Music
For my solo, I imagine myself as a light flower, when spring comes, with the wind is constantly flying. Sometimes it's high in the air, sometimes it's on the ground. Suddenly, the flower fell into a small river and began to swim with the current.
2
Free Waves
Sarah Feguira Batista
My solo is about freeing myself in the midst of life's chaos. Some movements are calmer and slower, while others demonstrate the strength to carry on. I aim to demonstrate many of my emotions through movements in my solo and how they connect with each other.
3
Liqi Ying
My story is about trying to get away from a bad accident and start a new life again.
4
Celeste Pongratz
My solo portrays the feelings of being in a relationship and not knowing if the other person is falling in love still or falling out of love slowly. The questioning and unknown of what is to come can be scary but also refreshing.
5
Vulnerability
Abigal Bosland
My solo has stiff movements in the beginning, that are more broken but appear strong, and progresses to strong free flow movements, to demonstrate that there is strength in weakness and growth in being vulnerable.
6
Ethan Yamar
My solo is about frustration. There's a lot of things I want to do and express, but the many facets of life impede my ability to do them, and so I get frustrated. I try to show in my dance the joys I experience in life, but also the frustrations I get.
7
Yiquan Wang
My solo dance compares myself to a little bird trying to stretch myself in the sky. I am soaring in the sky as I show how I molt my feathers. I like the light quality of movement; it is easier for me as it makes me feel more comfortable.
8
Grace Altidor
The story behind my solo is a girl who looks for love and affirmation in everyone and yet still gets pushed away. She first reacts with anger coming back mean and hard. But ,when the mask is peeled back you see her as she is.
9
Yoonsup Kim
My story is about an energy figure traveling from the ground and Earth to the air and other elements.
10
Macy Wallace
My story is about heartbreak. I am fighting my love for a toxic person while trying to heal. but i can’t help but turn back and reach out to what my heart is longing for. It’s a battle between my heart and mind. my heart is saying yes, while my mind says no.
11
Jada Brown
My solo is a about finding a new sense of freedom, from racing thoughts what naturally consumes me.
12
Molly Mackenzie
My solo is about trying to find and express peace but there’s conflicting feelings inside which are reflected on the variation of types of movements.
13
Janice Chukwu
My solo is about me striving for nothing but the best, and working hard towards my goal. There are also specs of being grateful throughout my solo.
14
Audrey Greer
My solo piece is about being unstoppable. Ive had to deal with being knocked down a lot this semester so in this piece I always rise from falling and keep thriving.
15
Emma Sephton
My solo is inspired by our ensemble dance, but less "scooping the energy" and more bound/strong movements.
16
Engage with Nature
Dancer: Ziqian Wang
My solo is about me, drawing energy from the environment as I communicate with nature through moves. My inspiration comes from Tai Chi.
17
Ophelia Hyde
My story is an interpretation of the natural world and independence. It is about someone who finds feeling and inspiration through spending time in different natural environments, like by the water, through the wind, the sun, the ground, etc.
18
Ben Afferton
My solo is about the purging of negative energy while embracing the positive energy that surrounds you. There is knowledge that sometimes you cannot get everything, but you always have to try.
19
Sarah Hutchison
My solo is about holding up the weight of the world. It's about feeling crushed, struggling to hold yourself up, then letting go and releasing the tension that was stressing you. The movements literally tell a story similar to that of Atlas with the world on his back, but the true meaning is the struggle of pressure and stress.
20
Nick Deambrosio
My solo is a spin off of our ensemble but more whimsical.
21
Idara Ibanga
My dance is about a flower blooming. It symbolizes me coming out of my shell and blossoming into a whole new person-a rebirth.

ENSEMBLES
I
The Cycle
Yoonsub Kim, Macy Wallace, Ziqian Wang, Leqi Ying
Music: Wait M83 (3:min.)
Our ensemble is about the struggle of getting through life together with support from others and independence. Dealing with the ups and downs of life like a roller coaster.
II
Continental Drift
Dancers: Ethan, Audrey, Joy, Yifei
Music: Fantasy & World Music by the Fiechters
Our story begins when the world was merely a sphere of water, with only Pangea floating among its great ocean. As the story begins, the tectonic plates proceed to push the land masses apart, creating diverse continents, terrains, and biomes around the planet. As the dance progresses, the continents find their role in our atmosphere, finding balance, completing food chains, and bearing live organisms across their lands. This results in a healthy global environment full of colorful culture and various ways of life. Our story concludes as all the continents find their way to operate as one unit, using unity and trust to bring peace.
III
“Starting Anew”
Music: Lilo & Stitch
Dancers: Molly, Jada, Sarah, Ophelia, Michael
Our group ensemble is about redemption and we are five people who have been separated coming back together.
